Acoustics (ACO)
Section Information
Acoustics focuses on the science and engineering of sound, including its generation, propagation, measurement, perception, and control. It encompasses physical acoustics, environmental acoustics, structural acoustics, underwater acoustics, psychoacoustics, and applications across engineering, architecture, medicine, music, and communication technologies.
Modern research in acoustics includes noise control, acoustic materials, sound–structure interaction, ultrasound technologies, audio signal processing, room and building acoustics, acoustic imaging, vibration analysis, and computational acoustic modeling. Advances in sensors, numerical methods, digital signal processing, and machine learning continue to expand acoustic measurement and control capabilities.
This section publishes experimental studies, theoretical analyses, engineering developments, computational models, reviews, and applied research addressing acoustic phenomena, sound design, noise mitigation, and innovative acoustic technologies across scientific and industrial sectors.
